#IDG2023: 10 years of Girls Speak Out!

IDG2023_Web Banner

Every year on October 11, we celebrate the International Day of the Girl (IDG). For the last 10 years, we have been part of the Working Group on Girls’ IDG Girls SpeakOut. Our network of schools would participate by sending videos, poems and artwork submissions and three of our students were moderators in 2022, 2021 and 2022. It is one of the highlight of our collaboration with our youth network.

The Girls SpeakOut was held on October 10 at the ECOSOC Chamber with over 400 participants in person and joining online. It began with Olivia reminding that we were there because “WE ARE WITH GIRLS! WE ARE FOR GIRLS! With that call, the over 200 girl leaders and advocate were encouraged to act for girls rights.

This year the IDG theme is “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership & Wellbeing” with a focus on action for girls’ rights.  Girl activists put forth statements and questions to members of the UN community, that included Ambassador Robert Rae (Permanent Representative of the Mission of Canada to the UN) and Dr. Sima Sami Bahous (Executive Director of UN Women) and other commitment makers aligned to Generation Equality and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Together with the Society of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) and VIVAT International we also sponsored Day 8 of the 11 Days of Action calling for more investments in Quality Education for Girls. You can read more and watch the videos of Girl Advocates from all organisations HERE.

Below are some of the submissions sent by students from our school network.
